Hi everyone

I'm a software engineer. Earlier in my career, I worked primarily in software development,
and today I work in cybersecurity.
"Still - Gentle Journal" is my first solo indie project.

A few years ago, I went through a difficult period in my life.
During that time, I visited several clinics and tried different forms of support.
I also experimented with journaling apps, mental wellness apps, and productivity tools.

Most of the professional help I received was well-intentioned, but I still felt unheard.
Then I met a doctor who did something surprisingly simple.

He listened.
He didn't immediately try to solve the problem or tell me what to do.
He simply listened to my story with empathy.
That conversation helped me more than I expected.

At the same time, I started writing things down.
Whenever I wrote in a journal, I felt a little lighter. It didn't solve my problems, but it gave me space to breathe.

So I tried various journaling apps.
Many of them focused on evaluation and advice.

Some tracked streaks.
Some scored emotions.
Some turned reflection into another thing to optimize.

What I needed wasn't more evaluation.

I needed space.
I wasn't looking for another system to improve myself.
I was looking for a place where my thoughts could simply exist without being judged.

That's why I spent the past year building Still.

It's a journal designed for reflection rather than self-optimization.
I care deeply about privacy.

The AI in Still exists, but it stays quietly in the background.
It doesn't diagnose, score, or predict.
It simply helps you notice what you've already written and return to it over time.

Building Still also meant removing a lot of things:

* No streaks.
* No emotional scores.
* No pressure to improve.
* Just a private place to write, notice, and rest.

I'd love to hear your thoughts, especially from fellow indie hackers:

* Do you think journaling should help people improve themselves?
* Or simply help them understand themselves a little better?

Thanks for checking out Still and supporting my first launch :)

Still is primarily designed and optimized for the mobile app experience, but I also wanted to make it accessible to more people.

Most core journaling features are available on the web, although some features such as subscriptions and certain premium experiences remain app-only.

I'd love to hear your thoughts. 🙂
