Every dictation tool I tried did one of two things: sent my audio to someone else's server, and/or charged me $15 a month forever. I wanted neither, so I built Sprich.
It runs Whisper large-v3 locally on your Apple Silicon Mac. Nothing leaves the machine. If you want cloud-quality output for a long session, plug in your own OpenAI or Anthropic key — Sprich uses your keys, not ours. You stay in control of where every word goes.
Three modes:
· Literal — verbatim, every "um" intact. Good for code dictation and raw notes.
· Formal — cleaned up for Slack, email, anything you'd send to a colleague.
· Custom — write your own system prompt and pick your own voice.
Works in any Mac app — Mail, Notes, Linear, Cursor, Slack, the address bar. Tap hotkey, speak, release, the text inserts where your cursor was - adapted to the app you work in.
