Hi Product Hunt — I’m Richard, the maker of SPAN.
I wanted to see what happens if you keep the familiar logic of Wordle-style feedback but remove one piece of information players normally take for granted: the answer’s length.
In SPAN, the word may be anywhere from 4 to 9 letters. A small gold beacon appears only when a guess is exactly one letter away in length, so players have to deduce the shape of the answer as well as its letters.
I made it as a deliberately simple, free web game: one Daily puzzle shared worldwide, seven guesses, unlimited Practice, no account and no adverts.
The most demanding part was making the word lists fair—keeping the accepted-guess dictionary broad while curating the actual answers to avoid names, unsuitable plurals and unreasonable obscurities.
I’d particularly value feedback on whether the length beacon feels intuitive and whether the difficulty feels right. Thanks for trying it.
