SoundIn
The buy-once Mac voice typer with Chinese-input details
SoundIn is a native macOS menu-bar dictation app: hold your hotkey, speak, release — text lands where your cursor is. $29 once, no subscription, no cloud. Plug in any Whisper-compatible endpoint, or run Qwen3-ASR on your Mac via oMLX. Made for Chinese input too: strip-trailing-punctuation toggle, IME misfire guards, double-tap hotkey translation. Swift, signed & notarized, Sparkle updates, transcription history with heatmap. Code is MIT open source; $29 supports indie development.
Hey PH! I'm Elio, a solo dev in Shanghai.
I built SoundIn because I dictate in both English and Chinese all day, and every tool I tried made me choose: pay $8+/month forever, or wrestle a free tool into working. So I made the thing I wanted — a native Mac menu-bar app you buy once ($29), point at any Whisper-compatible endpoint (or run Qwen3-ASR free on your own Mac with the included 3-step guide), and forget about.
Two details I'm proud of: a strip-trailing-punctuation toggle (anyone who dictates in Chinese knows the pain of 。,!appearing where they shouldn't), and a live waveform HUD so you always know it's listening.
The source is MIT, and the signed app itself is free on GitHub — the $29 supports independent development, and gets you the curated setup guide and priority on feature requests. Happy to answer anything, and honest teardowns welcome.
