Sonara
Free open-source music player for Mac, built by a student
Sonara is a free music player for Mac (Apple Silicon) with no signup and no subscription. It streams through the free Audius API and includes offline downloads, synced lyrics, radio, charts, album pages, playlists, and shelves across 7 Indian languages. Built from scratch in vanilla JS by a first-year CS student learning to code.
Hey everyone, I am Vajrang, a first-year CS student in Bangalore. I started learning JavaScript a few weeks ago and built Sonara as my way of actually learning it — one feature at a time, six versions so far.
It is free and open source, Mac only for now (Apple Silicon). Quick note: the app is unsigned since I cannot afford an Apple developer certificate yet, so before the first launch run `xattr -cr /Applications/Sonara.app` in Terminal. The README walks through it.
I would love your honest feedback. What is missing? What feels broken? What would make you actually keep it in your dock? I read everything and I am still learning, so do not hold back.

Who hunted Sonara?
Sonara was hunted by Vajrang Miriyala. A “hunter” on Product Hunt is the community member who submits a product to the platform — uploading the images, the link, and tagging the makers behind it. Around 79% of featured launches on Product Hunt are self-hunted by their makers, but a well-known hunter still acts as a signal of quality to the rest of the community.
