I work in construction, and takeoff — measuring quantities off drawings so you can price a job — is still one of the most painful parts of estimating. The good tools cost thousands per seat and need Windows. So most small builders and trades still print plans and use a scale rule, or fight with a PDF viewer at 1am the night before a tender is due.
Solid Takeoff is a browser-based takeoff tool built for those people.
- Open a PDF, photo or scan. Hit Detect and it reads the scale off the drawing — scale bar, labelled dimension or title-block ratio — and proposes it with a confidence level for you to confirm.
- Measure linear, area and count. Give a linear condition a height and it reports m² too; add a thickness and you get m³.
- Group measurements into conditions with a waste % that adjusts totals automatically.
- 45 standard symbols to BS 7671 / IEC 60617 and BS 5839 / ISO 7010, with auto-generated legends, plus your own uploaded symbols.
- Bluebeam-style markup, a reusable tool chest, version history you can roll back, and real-time collaboration on the same drawing.
- Export a sharp vector PDF with every measurement drawn on and a quantity summary page, or CSV straight into your estimate.
