A macOS virtual camera that moves camera control out of your meeting apps and into the menu bar. Switch between your real camera, a black frame, or any image you’ve set in advance—like a “be right back” screen—with one shortcut, and it applies everywhere at once. 14-day free trial, buy once.

Hi Product Hunt 👋 I built Simple Virtual Camera because I kept losing the same 20 seconds in every meeting. Someone rings the doorbell. I need to step away. And every app hides its camera toggle somewhere different — Zoom bottom-right, Meet behind a three-dot menu, Teams somewhere else again. By the time I found it, the moment had passed. So I moved the control out of the meeting apps entirely. Simple Virtual Camera is a macOS virtual camera that sits in your menu bar with three modes: • Off — streams a black frame, the call stays connected • Camera — passes your real camera straight through • Image — shows a registered image or GIF You pick it once as your camera inside Zoom / Meet / Teams / OBS, and from then on you switch from the menu bar or a global shortcut (⌃⌥⌘0 / 1 / 2). It applies to every camera app at once. You never open a meeting app's settings again. The part people seem to like most is the third mode. Instead of going dark, you can show "be right back" or "on a break" as an image. It says far more than a black tile, and it lightens the room a little. A few details: • Native menu bar app, no Dock icon, macOS 13+, Apple Silicon and Intel • Developer ID-signed and notarized by Apple • Localized in 7 languages (EN / JA / ZH / KO / ES / FR / DE) • 14-day full-feature trial, no card, no account • One-time purchase — not a subscription. Two Macs per license. Happy to answer anything about the CoreMediaIO extension side of it — getting a virtual camera to behave on modern macOS was most of the work. — Yuta
