ShowLine Color
Pick colors off your screen and keep them on a rope
Every color picker on Windows gives you one value and forgets it. Copy the hex, close the tool, paste it somewhere — and next week that brand color is gone. ShowLine Color keeps it: pick with a 15×15 px loupe and the color hangs as a swatch on a rope at your screen edge. Click for hex/RGB/HSL, or drag the card into Figma, VS Code or any text field and the value is typed in. Windows 10/11 · under 1 MB · no account, no network code · 12 languages · $4.99 once, 7-day trial.
Hey Product Hunt 👋
I'm the one person behind ShowLine Color. I shipped it this week — the frustration behind it is older than the app.
You know the loop. You sample a brand color, paste the hex, then paste something else over it, and twenty minutes later you are squinting at a screenshot trying to work out whether that blue was #2CA074 or #2BA276. Every picker I tried — including the free ones built into Windows — treated a color as a one-night stand: grab one value, close the window, forget it.
So I built the shelf. A color card hangs on the rope and stays.
How it works:
• Bring the pointer to the edge of the screen and the rope slides out.
• The loupe samples a 15×15 pixel area, not a single pixel, so you can see what you're actually grabbing before you click.
• Click a cell → hex / RGB / HSL are copied in your chosen format.
• The color also hangs on the rope as a swatch card. It stays there across sessions.
• Drag that card onto any text field — editor, design tool, chat — and the value is typed in. It is the part I use most, and the reason the app exists.
The boring-but-important bits:
• ~0% CPU idle, under 1 MB, starts instantly.
• No account. No telemetry. No network code at all — you can watch it in Resource Monitor, it never opens a connection.
• 12 languages.
• $4.99 once. No subscription, no "pro" tier, no watermark. 7-day trial in the Microsoft Store.
Honest comparison: if you need to grab one color a week, PowerToys ColorPicker is free and built in — use that. This is for people who work with a palette all day and are tired of keeping it in their head.
Happy to answer anything: the Win32 color pipeline (sRGB, no color management surprises), why the loupe is 15×15, or how the drag-to-type works.
