I built shewv to sell sneakers, and I assumed the hard part would be the
storefront — cart, checkout, payments, international shipping. It wasn't.
The hard part was that I had 707 supplier photographs and no reliable idea
what was in them.
A supplier photo is 500×375 pixels, shot on a folding table, sometimes with
a hand in the frame. No SKU, no manifest. You get a shoe, and you have to
decide what it is — brand, model, colourway, and whether it's genuine —
before you're allowed to put a price on it.
I got that wrong repeatedly, and the failures were the useful part. I listed
four Nike slides as "Crocs Classic Clog" because I read the silhouette and
ignored the swoosh printed on the strap and the Nike box sitting right next
to them. I listed five Air Jordan 1 Lows as "Nike Dunk Low" — two of them
Travis Scott collabs I'd priced at $115 against a $150 retail.
So the process changed. Read the logo and the box before you read the shape.
Never write off something as "not footwear" without enlarging it first. And
the rule that ended up mattering most: if you can't name it honestly, don't
list it.
487 pairs are live now. Five are still sitting unpublished because I can't
identify them well enough to describe them truthfully, and one is withheld
permanently as a likely counterfeit — a Nike silhouette with Gucci branding
on it.
If you spot a pair that's labelled wrong, tell me. I'll fix it the same day.
Every number in there is real, so you can defend all of it if someone digs.
