Shelf serves as a structured, student-focused platform for preserving and sharing academic resources. Users can sign up, choose their university and department, and create or access organized folders shared by the community. Designed like a social network for academic content, the product also introduces a donation system where contributions are reviewed by selected moderators to ensure they align with the platform’s needs and long-term goals, keeping Shelf sustainable and reliable.
Shelf was inspired by a very real gap I experienced as a student. Every academic session, valuable materials, lecture notes, past questions, tutorials, personal summaries are created, used briefly, and then lost. When students graduate or change devices, that knowledge disappears with them.
At the same time, many existing Nigerian academic websites and repositories struggle with poor maintenance, downtime, or outdated content. This makes access unreliable, especially for students who depend on these resources during critical periods like exams.
I wanted to build a system that preserves student knowledge instead of letting it reset every year, something stable, intentional, and built around how students actually share and consume academic materials.
Really like how it organizes everything by university and department right out of the gate, saves a lot of digging around. The moderator review for donations is a nice touch too.

Shelf was hunted by Mubarak Odetunde. A “hunter” on Product Hunt is the community member who submits a product to the platform — uploading the images, the link, and tagging the makers behind it.
