Hi Product Hunt. I am Jay, founder of Seerror and the maker of Seerie.

India loses thousands of crores of rupees a year to phone scams, and the scripts have gotten good. A caller claiming to be police tells you that you are under "digital arrest" and must stay on video until you pay. A UPI request arrives that looks like money coming in but is actually money going out. A job offer asks for a small registration fee.

I kept watching smart people freeze at the exact moment they needed a calm answer. Not because they were careless, but because the script is designed to sound official, urgent, and personal all at once. That was the problem: not a lack of awareness, but a lack of anything to check against in the sixty seconds that matter.

So we built Seerie.

  1. Scan -paste an SMS, link, or screenshot and get a clear verdict with next steps in English and Hindi. A 16 layer rules engine runs fully offline.

  2. Chat - an on-device AI (about 1.1 GB, downloaded once) answers safety questions in plain language. After a scan you can tap Ask Seerie and it explains your result without making you feel stupid.

  3. Community - moderated public threads where people ask for help and others share what worked.

  4. SOS - one tap alert to trusted contacts with a map pin and auto retry when the network is weak, plus the correct helplines (1930, 112, 181, 1098) instead of random links.

How it evolved. We started as a pure rules engine that returned a risk score. Testing with real people made it obvious that a verdict alone does not help. Someone who has just been threatened for two hours does not need a number, they need a calm explanation of what is happening and what to do next. That is why we added on-device AI and the Ask Seerie flow, and why every result now ends in steps rather than a score.

The part I care most about. Your messages never leave your phone. Scan checks and AI answers both run locally. For an app that handles screenshots of someone's bank messages, shipping that to a cloud was the line we refused to cross.

Free, no ads, and you can use it without an account.

It is education and empowerment, not a police hotline. If money has already moved, the answer is 1930 and cybercrime.gov.in.

I would genuinely like to hear where it fails. If you paste something and the verdict feels wrong, tell me and I will fix it.

The machine scams. Seerie sees.

Comment highlights

The offline angle is really smart, especially for India where data and privacy matter a lot. One idea that would make it even more useful: add a quick share sheet option so you can forward a suspicious message directly from WhatsApp or SMS to Seerie and get an instant verdict without having to take a screenshot first.

the offline-only approach is honestly the smartest call here, basically no other scam tool respects that boundary. love that the 1930 and 112 shortcuts are baked right into the SOS flow too, feels like it was designed by people who actually live through this stuff.

Scanned a sketchy UPI SMS and got a verdict in Hindi without any upload happening in the background, which is exactly what I wanted. The offline engine feels surprisingly fast for something running entirely on my phone.
