I made a small tool to stop remote candidates answering straight from AI in our interviews and cheating. Frustratingly our coding exercises had no defence against AI reading tools providing answers instantly to candidates.
SecureInterview works in-browser and stops all on-device AI tools, preventing screen reading our questions/coding exercises. It's effective against apps like Cluely, Granola, Interview Coder. It uses DRM & tech licensed from another company, for which we provide free. There is Microsoft Purview which wasn't strictly made for this and works similarly but is not fully cross-platform like SI and requires Enterprise licenses (multiple $0,0000 usually).
So far the feedback from the company internally is very positive and works well at stopping AI screen readers I was allowed to test at work internally so already been multiple iterations and funny stories from managers who say the look on some peoples faces when they can't figure out why AI tools isnt working.
Feedback welcome on my little app, and stories about your experiences, ways you use tackle AI use in interviews, if you accept it or exclude its use.
Challenges: This was a surprise to me. The protected video space was difficult to navigate and took months. Lots of NDAs & patents. It seems each platform like Android, Windows and MacOS strictly control who can operate the license processes. Next challenge were Patents. The first POC used WebRTC, arguably a better protocol for video calls. But I went to discover a patent (EZDRM WebRTC) that stopped WebRTC being used in this way. I looked at using other transports only to discover more patented or patent-pending filings, turns out this space is heavily congested with active and new Patent filings from Dolby Red5, EZDRM, castLabs and others because of TV and film. My company didn't want risk any legal issues so it stalled for months. I tried thinking of alternative workarounds but the companies legal team said the Patents are too broad and too risky to navigate. Eventually reaching out a company that had a compatible Patent. I negotiated a generous low fee approach for this specific use case hence why a generous free tier exist.
PS Try taking a screenshot or screen record as a candidate, the interviewers video and screen share should be blocked.
