I built SeatLayer because every time I looked into adding reserved seating to a ticketing or booking product, the options were the same: build a seat map from scratch (weeks of dev time), or bolt on a bloated, ticketing-specific platform that wanted control of your whole checkout flow just to get an interactive seat picker.
As a developer, I wanted something that behaved like infrastructure, not a platform: a clean API/SDK you drop into your existing stack, a visual venue designer so non-technical teammates can build seat maps without touching code, and pricing that only charges for confirmed seats instead of punishing you for traffic.
The approach evolved a lot along the way — early versions were much more "batteries included," but the more developers I talked to, the more I stripped it back to just the seat-mapping problem done really well (including 3D seat views so end users can actually preview what they're booking) and got out of the way of everything else in their stack.
