Scriber — YouTube transcripts, instantly
YouTube transcripts that work even without captions
Most transcript tools just copy captions, so they fail on the videos that don't have any. Scriber uses captions when they exist and transcribes the audio when they don't. Paste a link, get clean, copy-ready text in seconds. No sign-up to try.
Hey Product Hunt 👋
I built Scriber because every YouTube transcript tool I tried broke on the exact videos I needed: the ones without captions.
Most tools, including YouTube's own transcript panel, just copy captions the creator already uploaded. Plenty of videos have none. Smaller channels, older uploads, recorded lectures, conference talks. On those you get an error or an empty box. The words are right there in the
audio, the tool just can't reach them.
Scriber checks for captions first, and when there aren't any it transcribes the audio directly. Either way you paste a link and get clean, copy-ready text, with timestamps if you want them.
The other thing I cared about was keeping it simple. Getting a transcript is almost never the real goal. It's one step on the way to something else: studying for an exam, writing a post, pulling a quote, feeding a video to ChatGPT. A tool for a step like that should get out of the way, not hand you another thing to manage. So there's no account needed to try it, no dashboard, no projects, no settings to learn. One box, paste a link, get your text.
It's built for people who'd rather read a 40 minute video than watch it. Students turning lectures into notes, researchers pulling quotes, anyone who just needs the words.
Three free transcripts to try it, then credits or unlimited if you need more.
I'd really like feedback, especially if you hit a video that fails.
There's a contact form on the site and I read everything.

Congrats on the launch, @marcos_nahr ! Love that it transcribes audio when captions aren't available. that must open up a lot of content. Can this be extended to other non YT formats as well?
Tried it on an old podcast episode that has no captions and it pulled clean paragraphs in a few seconds, way better than running it through a separate speech tool. No signup was a nice touch too.
Being able to grab transcripts without signing up is huge, will definitely use this. One thing that would make it even better is the option to export directly to a .txt or .srt file with timestamps, since I often need the timing for editing clips or quoting specific moments in articles.
pulled a transcript from a video i've been stuck on for weeks, no captions at all, and it came back surprisingly clean with the actual speaker names intact. honestly kind of wild how fast it ran.
Tried it on an old live stream with no captions and it actually pulled a clean transcript in seconds, which is the exact thing every other tool I've used chokes on. The no-signup thing is a nice touch too.
Love how it doesn't force a sign-up just to grab a transcript, and the fallback to actual audio transcription when captions are missing is genuinely useful for niche creators.
The no sign-up trial is a nice touch, got my transcript in seconds on a captioned video. One thing that would seal it for me: timestamps alongside the text so I can jump back to a specific moment when I'm quoting a video for a newsletter.
A download button for .txt or .srt files would make this way more useful for me, since I often pull transcripts into Notion or Subtitle Edit. Right now I'd have to copy and reformat everything by hand.
Finally tried it on a podcast clip with no captions and it pulled the audio just fine, which is usually where other tools give up. Clean output too.
A speaker label toggle would be great for podcast clips with multiple people talking. Could also be nice to export directly to a doc or markdown instead of just plain text. Otherwise, super handy for pulling quotes from interviews that never got captions uploaded.
