👋 Hey Product Hunt! Maker here. I built ScreenREC because I was frustrated with screen recorders that: ❌ Require heavy downloads ❌ Force you to create accounts ❌ Upload your recordings to their servers ❌ Charge monthly subscriptions for basic features ScreenREC is different: ✅ Works 100% in your browser (no installation) ✅ No account needed - just open and record ✅ Privacy-first - recordings stay on YOUR device ✅ Completely free and open source Built with: Next.js, MediaRecorder API, Canvas API, FFmpeg.wasm Perfect for: • Quick bug reports to your dev team • Tutorial videos • Client demos • Async standups • Educational content I'd love your feedback! @devgossips Congratulations on the product launch I tried the tool this morning, and honestly, it’s one of the best I’ve seen on Product Hunt in recent times. It’s simple and solves a very real problem. On Windows, getting high-quality screenshots and screen recordings usually means installing multiple apps, signing up, and dealing with unnecessary friction.

This removes all of that.

And I also really love the scrolling screenshot feature, it’s a great touch.

Really well done, I’d definitely recommend this to others.

Hi, the product looks awesome. However, the URL isn't opening. Can you please check:

A really interesting product—simple and easy to use. Already saved to my favorites!

Congrats on ScreenREC! Love the privacy-first, browser-based approach.

One thing users might experience - longer recordings (20+ min) could slow down on devices with limited RAM since it's all local. Happy to help optimize memory handling if needed, or let's connect in the future. Great work!

Congratulations on your launch. Just a quick note. When downloading MP4 files from your website, they are being downloaded in WEBP format instead. Could you please check and fix this?

Can you clarify if it records webcam and screen simultaneously in full HD?

Love this — super clean and solves a very real pain point. Huge congrats on the launch
Browser-only, no account, privacy-first is exactly what a screen recorder should be.

Are you thinking about adding things like quick annotations, trimming, or shareable links (still local-first)?

Hi there! Congrats on the launch.

Can it be used to make tool walkthrough videos? (I mean add texts and some animations or padding to make it look visually impressive?)

Great, no installation required, would you consider screen sharing to launch a share link feature? So that other friends can see your projection, I think this will be a game-changer 👀

Wow, ScreenREC is awesome! Love the instant, no-signup approach – finally, a truly frictionless recorder. Im curious, are there any plans to add custom watermark options for branding tutorial videos?

The zero-install browser based recording combined with local storage is a strong technical choice. I am curious how Screen REC manages CPU and memory usage during long Full HD recordings, especially when capturing webcam and audio simultaneously.

Very cool, I like it. I was using the Microsoft screen grab clipper tool for a while, and it made me nuts. The way the videos were all funky and sometimes it wouldn’t save it. Anyway, I love it.

Just a week ago, I found that the native app on Mac didn't support system sound while recording a private tutorial, which was so frustrating that I gave up. Wish I had known about ScreenREC earlier! Will definitely use it for my next tutorial recording. Congrats on the launch!
