i'm varun, solo indie iOS dev. shipped Screenary 4 days ago and this is my first real launch.
the problem: i had 4,213 screenshots in my camera roll. otps, boarding passes, recipes my sister sent on whatsapp, wifi passwords from airbnbs. and i could never find any of them.
so i built Screenary. it uses Apple Vision OCR + on-device AI to read every screenshot, auto-categorize them (otp, receipts, travel, chats…) and let you search by what's actually inside. "amazon refund" → finds the chat where your mom asked about it AND the email confirmation. all on-device. nothing goes to a server.
tech: SwiftUI + SwiftData + Vision for OCR. Firebase AI only for the Ask Screenary chat (and only the text snippets get sent, never images). no Algolia, no Pinecone, no backend at all. it's an honest little app.
