Flat-rate freelancers lose hours to "quick" client changes. ScopeGuard logs every scope creep in 30 seconds, shows the real cost in a live Creep Meter, and turns it into a clean add-on invoice your client can view read-only — no awkward conversation required.

Hey Product Hunt 👋 I'm the maker of ScopeGuard. I built this because every freelancer I know has the same problem: the client says "just one small change" and it quietly eats your margin. You either swallow it or have an awkward money talk. ScopeGuard makes the change a *system*, not a negotiation: • Log a creep in 30s → Creep Meter updates live • Share a read-only link so the client sees agreed-vs-added side by side • One click → a clean add-on invoice PDF Free for 1 active project, no card. Would love your feedback — especially from freelancers dealing with scope creep today. 🛡️

I spent years taking fixed-price freelance work, and the pattern never changed. A $2,000 project. Then "can you also add a login page?" in week two. Then another. Then another. None of them felt big enough to stop and renegotiate, so I absorbed them — and finished having worked 40 hours I never billed.

ScopeGuard is deliberately not an AI scope checker. No model reads your contract and guesses what is in scope, because when the invoice goes out your client argues with you, not with a model. So you write the baseline yourself, in your own words, in about five lines. Every time a client asks for something outside it, you log it as an add-on in roughly 30 seconds. The Creep Meter keeps a running total, so at any moment you can see you are +9.5 hours and +$640 past what was agreed. When you are ready, you pick the add-ons and it generates a PDF invoice.

The part I care most about: your client can see the same baseline-vs-added view through a read-only link. No account, no login, revoke it anytime. That means the extra work gets agreed before the invoice arrives, instead of argued about after.

It is built for solo freelancers and small studios doing flat-rate work — developers, designers, writers, consultants. If you bill hourly and already track time, you probably do not need this.

Two things it does not do, so you know what you are getting: there are no integrations yet (no Toggl, Jira, or Notion import — logging is manual on purpose, since the point is that you and your client agreed on the wording), and there is no mobile app. It also does not process payments; it generates the invoice and you collect however you already do.

One question I would really like answered: what would make you log an add-on the moment a client asks, instead of telling yourself you will remember it later? That habit is the whole thing.
