SceneCaption Studio
Edit captions like a doc. Time them with shortcuts.
A local macOS caption editor for video editors. Transcribe with Whisper, edit subtitles like a document, snap timing to scene cuts, and export MP4, SRT, and Final Cut Pro FCPXML.
Hi Product Hunt!
I built SceneCaption Studio because subtitle editing often becomes a slow cleanup process after transcription.
Most AI caption tools can generate text, but editors still need to fix wording, adjust line breaks, split subtitle blocks, and clean up timing by hand.
SceneCaption Studio is my attempt to make that workflow faster on macOS:
- Local Whisper transcription
- Document-style subtitle editing
- Keyboard-based timing at the playhead
- Automatic scene cut detection
- Caption snapping to detected cuts
- Burned-in MP4 export
- SRT export
- Final Cut Pro FCPXML export
The part I’m most curious about is scene-aware subtitle timing. Instead of dragging every caption edge manually, the app can detect visual cuts and use those cuts as timing points.
I’d love feedback from video editors and creators:
1. Is scene-aware caption timing a real pain point?
2. Should I position this mainly for Final Cut Pro editors, YouTubers, documentary editors, or broader creators?
3. Are FCPXML exports a strong differentiator, or should the messaging focus more on faster caption cleanup?
Launch price is $10.99 as a one-time purchase, not a subscription.
Thanks for checking it out!
