Hey Product Hunt 👋
I'm Anshul. I built SageCast because I couldn't find a Mac podcast player that did three things together:
1. Transcribed episodes locally — without uploading my audio to someone's server.
2. Let me chat with the transcript using my own AI keys, not someone else's API budget.
3. Let me capture time-stamped notes mid-listen and scrub the audio to fix the timestamp.
Existing apps were either cloud-first (transcription happens server-side, with quotas), keyless (one model, no choice), or free-tier-then-pay. None of them seemed to respect the simple idea that podcast listening is a local activity and the data should stay local.
What's in this version:
• Whisper transcription on-device via WhisperKit. Pick the model size; "small" is the sweet spot for most Macs.
• Chat with the transcript. Bring your own key for OpenAI, Anthropic, OpenRouter, or Grok. The app proxies nothing.
• Time-stamped notes. Markdown export. Full settings backup as one JSON file you can move between Macs.
• Public radio via Radio Browser, in the same player.
• OPML import from Apple Podcasts / Overcast / Pocket Casts.
• Free, open source under MIT (https://github.com/anshulg8/sage...). No account, no telemetry, no upsell.
Two honest caveats:
• Apple Silicon only — I don't have an Intel Mac to test on.
• Not Apple-notarized yet (the $99/yr Developer Program is coming once it's worth it). Easiest install is the Homebrew tap, which strips quarantine so first launch is silent:
brew tap anshulg8/sagecast
brew install --cask sagecast
I'd love feedback — what's missing, what's annoying, what
you'd build instead. Reply here or ping @anshulg8.
