SafeGrd backs up Postgres, MySQL, MongoDB, SQLite, files and mail. Each backup is encrypted on your host and locked with S3 Object Lock, so nothing can delete it early, including an agent holding your admin keys. On a schedule it restores the newest backup, counts every table and row, and signs the result. Agents get an MCP token that can take backups but never delete one. Try it on one database with no account: safegrd try

Hi Product Hunt, I'm Kush. I built SafeGrd.

I spent more than ten years at Google, Amazon and other companies working on protecting customer data. Coding agents now run migrations and shell commands against production, often with the same credentials as the backup script. One bad command can take out the database and the backups with it.

SafeGrd encrypts each backup on your host and writes it to S3-compatible storage under Object Lock in compliance mode. Nothing can delete it before the lock ends, us included.

On a schedule, a Fire Drill restores the newest backup, counts every table and row against what was backed up, and signs the result. You can publish it as a page anyone can check. Threat Shield compares each backup with the one before. If tables go missing or row counts drop, it flags the backup and points you to the last good one.

Agents connect over MCP. Their token can check status, take a backup before a risky migration and run a restore test. It can't delete a backup, shorten retention or change where backups go.

You can try it on one database without an account:

brew install safegrd/tap/safegrd
safegrd try postgres://user:pass@host/db

It takes a real backup, restores it and prints the tables and rows it read back. Install with the one-line script from safegrd.dev/docs/install for any other OS.

It runs on your server, in Docker or Kubernetes, or from a GitHub Action. We also provide managed runners for Supabase, Neon or RDS, so SafeGrd can run it for you. This keeps your backups outside your vendor and can trigger a restore on demand. We have wordpress and laravel plugin for once click management. The CLI is source-available (BSL 1.1). There's a free plan, and a 14-day trial of Growth with no card.

How do you test your restores today? I'd like to hear what would make you trust one.
