Roots is the thing I wanted after buying a house and realizing nothing tells
you what needs doing. There is no manual. You find out the furnace doesn't work on the first cold day of the year.
So Roots asks a few questions about your place and builds the schedule for you.
Under it sits a comprehensive home task planner, each with a
frequency and the reason it matters. A reminder that says
"flush the water heater" is easy to dismiss. One that says why you are doing it
gets done.
Three things it does beyond reminders:
- A home value estimate from comparable sales, adjusted for the projects you
have finished and how well the place has been kept.
- Projects, receipts and warranties live next to the schedule, so the history
of the house is in one place when you sell or when something breaks.
- A Home Health Score, which is upkeep you have actually completed rather than
tasks you created.
On pricing: it is free for one person looking after one home, which is most homeowners. Unlimited tasks and reminders, no card, no trial clock. You only pay if you want to share it with someone else or keep more than one property in it.
