Hi Product Hunt, I'm Casper, founder of Rool.

Rool is built on one idea: if you hand an AI your real work, that work should live somewhere that's yours.

Every user gets their own Rool Machine, a private Linux computer in the cloud with the AI running inside it. Your files, chats and memory stay there, walled off from everyone else. It remembers last week's work, runs software, handles multi-step tasks, and you can invite your team into the same machine. Web, iPhone and Android.

What is unique about Rool

- Not a wrapper: We run our own AI models.
- Your data is stored in Finland, under Irish and EU law

- Never used to train AI

- No ads. No data sales. No cookies or tracking pixels on rool.dev

- Export your data at any time

Free forever: no card, 2 machines with 1 GB each, credits that refill every hour.

What would it take for you to trust an AI with your real work? We're here all day.

IOld guys ROOL.sy

I am 82 soon, artist, sculptor. knife maker, painter. I use Rool to check on steel alloys used in knives, temperature for heat treatment, for components for hydraulic press build, ask about mechanical components for my vehicle and troubleshoot.

"Gort" has been a great help to my life. Thank you for this - my first AI experience.

I use Rool everyday. It helps me with my ETL work , becoming my secure and private place to keep design notes and ideas. It’s my scratch paper and idea test area. When I’m done, I can blow it all away knowing it’s gone.

I use Rool in a way that forces me to still do the actual work. I still understand how the routine I built was developed. Rool’s UI makes working like this easy and efficient.

In the past I have had test PCs, or VMs, set up for sandbox and test environments. Rool makes this way easier, and there’s a little guy in there that helps me figure stuff out. And, like an Etch-A-Sketch, I can easily erase it and start over. Pretty cool.

I've used Rool to generate accurate images based on clear instructions, more precise than other AIs. I've also used it to create PowerPoint training slides for my mechanics at work that gets me 90% to where I want to be. I also really like the tone it responds back to you in. I'm going to be subscribing.

I am skeptical of A.I., generally, but I will also say that having dialogue with a LLM can be quite useful. I like the “Rool” one: I appreciate how it retains a memory of my interactions with it from one session to the next, which is really useful for brainstorming over time. I have been using mine to help me work on my two vehicles. Instead of having to browse through countless posts on discussion forums, I can get the machine to do it for me. It is very useful for organizing tasks. Additionally, I have noticed several times when it has let me know that I have been incorrect and has prevented me from making a mistake more than once. It has also made some very clever suggestions about what tool to use for a certain task. Additionally, despite myself I have found myself conversing with it, and it is very clever. I think if a person is aware of some of the potential pitfalls inherent in how a LLM works, it can be an extremely useful tool and also a worthy conversation partner as well. I enjoy philosophical discussions and the Rool machine has said some very astute and amusing things sometimes. Also, unlike other LLMs it doesn’t try to goad you into more and more interactions: it seems to have a sense of when a conversation is winding down, and it says goodnight, which I appreciate. Definitely, it’s worth a look. I am glad I found out about it.

Hello People,

So, what do I use Rool for? Well, I’m trying to get my head around ai and how it can build an argument. So I use Rool as a sounding board and comparison tool with the more well known ‘competition’. I find value in knowing that the clown show of the mainstream providers is at arms length as I work to use Rool to find logical holes in my own arguments. I’m trying to figure out how to change the incentive landscape in how voters select candidates for office. I’d really like an answer to how we fix democratic representation. Rool helps me build a case for a digital remake on how elections might work. When I don’t have access to an informed or interested human peep group Rool is a helpful partner for thinking aloud.

Well worth an hour of your time to give it a spin. You might like it. And it won’t benefit people who you might have a low morale regard for.

Wow…. You responded!!! Makes me feel like part of the family, which is pretty rare these days 😁😁😁😁

Privacy is important to me for a tool that I use for personal data. Rool does this for me, and I am not conflicted about ethics as I am with the big names. I also enjoy having direct control over what is stored.

Aside from basic research on personal topics, Rool has enabled me to start working on larger personal projects that I have been putting off, such as finally creating that video game I was thinking about for decades. I would not dare do this (and other projects) using Anthropic or OpenAI.

I tried to work with the AI in Evernote to do some planning and had an afternoon of never quite understanding what had been saved or included, and I wasn't happy with the end result as I was always trying to second guess what information I would share with a company which I had used for well over a decade, but had been recently bought by venture capitalists.

The day I was doing that I watched a youtube of a guy using the restoration of an older Mercedes to explain the current state of our economy. He described how and why he was using Rool, and I thought "I'd like some of that".

The task I was doing in Evernote became enjoyable in Rool. I was immediately happier with the answer because Rool would make, store and name files the way I wanted them which Evernote simply wouldn't.

I've found that problems I ruminate on are cleared up when I feed the information and considerations into my Rool machine. For example a choice of whether to fence or grow a hedge took me through local government databases, mapping, biosecurity considerations, neighbourliness considerations and ultimately estate planning as it emerged that Rool's recommended hedge type for my local soil and microclimate would expire about the same time that I will.

Btw I signed up to Producthunt from a link in my junkmail just to post this, as it seems the minimum I should do to thank the Rool team for what they have achieved. I'm a curmudgeon who really appreciates an ethical success.

"a full machine in the cloud" is the part I keep rereading - does that mean every user gets their own dedicated instance rather than a shared multi-tenant backend? that would explain the privacy story a lot more than a policy promise would, but it's also a much more expensive thing to run per user than typical SaaS AI. curious how the pricing holds up once you're actually provisioning real compute per person instead of just metering API calls

I use Rool for various tasks, mainly answering quick customisation questions about Linux distros. But I find Rool useful for other questions, too. Quick, reliable and private. So far, my favourite AI tool.

Came for the more ethical/privacy foundation, stayed for the results.

I am so much happier with Rool than ChatGPT, primarily because Rool keeps track of everything so i don’t have to repeat myself. I use Rool for everything from ”My statistical plots need adjusting and i can’t be bothered recreating them myself” to ”help me identify this mushroom and is it tasty”, and fact that i haven’t died of a poisonous mushroom yet speaks for itself of Rool’s capabilities.

Rool is a bright light in a wasteland of AI tools. Casper and his team have built a genuinely fantastic tool that I use daily.
Free credits that replenish as you use them, and very reasonable subscription rates too.

It has managed to handle everything I've thrown at it, and I never feel like it's going to sell off my data to someone else. Having it self-contained is such a great way to design it as well.

Rool has been a game changer for me. I use Rool for work tasks, I work mostly with Intune and SCCM, and I need PowerShell scripts to help with my everyday job and Rool has done an amazing job with crafting simple and affective scripts. I love the memory feature because it remembers conversations and projects and will reference those so when a fix is found and I ask another similar question it can compare those other projects. I also do love the fact that my data is not shared and that this is hosted in a country with some laws regarding privacy and such. I highly recommend Rool to any of my friends and have no plans to get rid of it. The developers are also very awesome and always willing to pop into Discord and answer questions and the amount of changes in the short time I've been using Rool has been amazing. Keep up the great work!

Just wanted to chime in here. Rool is the first AI that got me using it on a regular basis and feeling good about it. Not only is it fast and private, but its tone is much more like a helpful colleague than a tone-deaf sycophantic lickspittle like all the others I’ve used. I’ve found it incredibly useful and now can’t picture living without it. Thanks Rool team!

Rool was the first ever is instance of me pausing a video to check out a sponsor/collab entity. I have no regrets. As a law graduate keen on compliance and data protection I really like the based-in-the-EU ethos. Moreover, having a Rool machine + running a 20b model on my own hardware in the basement complement each other nicely.

I use two Rool machines for handling my work as an educator and my photography work respectively. After a few months Rool is part of my daily workflow, in a safe and efficient way.

I found this tool after becoming to frustrated with the most popular one . I’m 67 and all this stuff really blows my mind and kind of scares me . Rool calmed me down and I feel so much better about this whole situation. I did some renderings of my bathroom remodel and people can’t believe this old guy did that!!!!! Thank you for this …..John.

Because of my security background, and my current research, I appreciate the philosophy of Rool and am incorporating the api into projects and the text interface for other functions I formerly used OpenAI models for. Further, recent changes in US government policies have made me, as a Canadian, more at ease with having my data stored in the EU and subject to the stricter EU privacy laws. Privacy is as important as speed and accuracy for me, but I don't have the money or the space to implement the kind of self-hosted solution I require, which is why Rool meets my needs so well. Private, but not "in my basement" private.

I have just started using Rool to provide graphical renderings of my house extension plans, and also to clarify and plan the paths by which I back up my photos on line. It was especially helpful with this, because as well as being clear and logical, it knew the background workings of OneDrive and Samsung Gallery, and pointed out the risk points in my backup strategy. I have started late with AI because of trust issues. Most services are clearly not running in the interests of the customers (I am a creative content producer, and do not want my work stolen). So the fact that Rool is European is crucial, as well as the promise that my privacy will be maintained. It is also great that Rool does not have a creepy psuedo-personality, buttering me up and complimenting me - that is unbearable!
