RME is a privacy-first, open-source document scanner for Android. Scan documents, import PDFs and images, run OCR offline, create searchable PDFs, and export or share your files — without an account, ads, tracking, or a backend. Your documents stay on your device. RME combines everyday scanning tools with a simple principle: document scanning shouldn’t require giving your documents or personal data to a third party.
Hi Product Hunt! 👋
I built RME because I wanted a document scanner that was simple, useful, and didn’t require sending personal documents to someone else’s backend.
What started as a small privacy-first scanner gradually became a more complete Android tool: offline OCR, searchable PDFs, PDF and image import, editing, organization, and easy export — while keeping the core principle unchanged: your documents stay on your device.
RME is open source, has no ads, no tracking, and requires no account.
I’m still actively building it, and this launch is also about learning from real users. I’d especially love to hear what’s missing, what feels awkward, or what would make you switch from your current scanner.
Thanks for checking it out! 🙌
