Riplox Desktop
Share a link from your phone. Your PC downloads it.
Riplox is a free, open-source video downloader for Windows. Paste a link and keep the file at up to 8K, or MP3. Or pair your phone once and share links from any app: your PC downloads them, even if it was off when you sent them. Only the link travels, sealed, and on the same Wi-Fi it never leaves your network. Whole playlists and channels, Following for new uploads, convert, trim, schedule, and a public Board of links. No account, no caps, no ads, nothing bundled. GPL-3.0.
Hi everyone, maker here.
Riplox started with a chore I did every day: see a video on my phone, send myself the link on WhatsApp, open WhatsApp Web on the PC, copy, paste into a downloader. Four steps, every time, for years.
Now the phone shares straight to the PC. You pair once (a code that lives two minutes) and Riplox appears in the Android share sheet. There is a 77 KB app for that, or you can use it with nothing installed, and on iPhone a Shortcut does the same job. Share a link and the download starts on the desktop at full quality. The PC does not have to be awake: links wait up to a week and arrive when it comes back. My own phone has sent 95 links to my PC so far, mostly reels I wanted on the big screen.
What it touches, plainly: the link is sealed on the phone and only your PC can open it. The relay in the middle forwards something it cannot read, and when both are on the same Wi-Fi it is not used at all. Nothing on the internet can reach the PC; it dials out. The video is downloaded by the PC on its own connection and never goes near a server of mine.
Underneath is a full downloader: 8K down to 360p or MP3, playlists and whole channel sections, a queue that survives a restart, subtitles, chapters, SponsorBlock, trimming without re-encoding, convert to MP4, MKV, WebM or GIF, a start time per download, and Following, which reads a channel's own feed and lists new uploads (fetching them is opt-in and capped). 1.7.0 added the Board: one public room of links that anyone running Riplox can post to and download from. Only links, no chat, no names.
Two things you will notice. It uses yt-dlp for the downloading, and I would not pretend otherwise — the part I built is the transport and the app around it. And the installer is not code-signed yet, so Windows SmartScreen warns on first run; the SHA-256 is on every release page.
Free, GPL-3.0, no account, no caps, nothing bundled. Windows 10 and 11, an 81 MB installer or a portable zip. Also on winget, Chocolatey and Scoop.
If you try the pairing, I would genuinely like to know whether it made sense the first time without reading anything. That is the part I have rewritten the most.
