Planning a good ride takes longer than riding one.
Say you want 60 miles, quiet roads, a bit of climbing, finishing at your door. In every planner I've used that means: drop a pin, drag a line, check the distance — too short. Extend it. Now it's over. Check the elevation — too flat. Drag it into the hills. Now it crosses the same main road twice. Twenty minutes later you have something you'll ride, and you still don't know what half of it is surfaced with.
That last part is what actually ruins rides. Plenty of roads in OpenStreetMap never say what they're made of — on our own routes it's about 8% of the distance — and most planners quietly count that as tarmac. It isn't. Sometimes it's farm track, and you find out at speed.
Rieda replaces the whole thing with a sentence.

Seconds later you have three loops. It built 20, scored every one on surface, traffic and climbing, and kept the best three — with the numbers attached, including the one that scored worse and why. Distance and climbing are targeted together, and when the terrain can't give you what you asked for it says so instead of quietly missing.
Unknown surface counts as risk, not tarmac. On a road ride it goes around it; on a gravel ride it goes looking for it. Same graph, opposite rule.
Want it flatter, longer, or as gravel? Say so and it replans while you talk. Or drag the line, if you'd rather. Then GPX or FIT, straight to a Garmin or Wahoo.
