Hey Product Hunt — I built ReturnFast because the normal Mac navigation tools answer the wrong question.
Command-Tab asks, “Which app do you want?” But after jumping from Cursor to documentation in Chrome, then a terminal, Finder, and Slack, the question is usually, “Where exactly was I?”
ReturnFast adds a browser-style Back and Forward trail across your Mac.
Press ⌥⌘[ to move backward and ⌥⌘] to move forward. It keeps one ordered history across applications, with deeper restoration where macOS and the application expose enough context:
— matching open tabs in Chrome, Brave, and Edge
— Finder folders
— VS Code, Cursor, VSCodium, and Windsurf files and lines when available
— matching terminal and application windows
— a detour shortcut for returning to the work location you left before an interruption
The navigation trail stays in memory on your Mac and is not uploaded. Purchase and license activation are handled separately so the app can enforce the number of Macs included in the license.
A few honest v1 limits: a browser tab must still be open; editor file-and-line restoration is best effort; terminal restoration does not recreate a closed shell or command; Safari, Firefox, and chat apps currently use window-level fallback; and the trail clears when ReturnFast quits.
