Retext expands short triggers into full text as you type — addresses, email signatures, code blocks, canned replies. Typeaddr and it instantly becomes your full address. Works system-wide in any Mac app. Free to try, no account needed.
Hey Product Hunt 👋
I'm Corey, and along with Aaron we built Retext.
I built Retext because I was tired of typing the same things over and over — my
address, my email signature, the same Slack replies, the same code boilerplate.
Existing Mac text expanders felt heavy or stuck in 2012, so we made the one we wanted.
How it works:
• Create a snippet with a short trigger like "addr"
• Type ;addr anywhere on your Mac
• It instantly expands to the full text — in Mail, Slack, VS Code, your browser, anywhere
A few things I'm proud of:
→ It's instant. No popup, no delay, no breaking your flow.
→ It works everywhere. Runs quietly in the background, system-wide.
→ Your snippets stay on your device. Nothing is sent anywhere (the one exception
is AI generation, which calls Anthropic directly with your own key).
→ AI-powered snippets (Pro): describe what you want and let it draft the snippet —
great for canned replies and prompt variations.
It's free to try (5 snippets + 1 AI generation, no account needed). Pro unlocks
unlimited snippets + unlimited AI.

included.
Aaron and I will both be here all day — would love your feedback, feature requests,
and your most-used snippet ideas. What's the one phrase you're sick of typing? 👇
The "no account needed" decision is underrated - text expanders are the kind of tool that should just work silently in the background. The moment you add auth and cloud sync, you've added complexity to something that's supposed to remove it. How are you handling snippet sync across machines for users who want that?
System-wide snippets without a heavy app flow makes a lot of sense. The first things I’d save are email replies, addresses, and repeated Slack messages.
Does Retext support dynamic fields like date and clipboard, or is it mostly static snippets?

Who hunted Retext?
Retext was hunted by Corey Haines. A “hunter” on Product Hunt is the community member who submits a product to the platform — uploading the images, the link, and tagging the makers behind it. Hunters typically write the first comment explaining why a product is worth attention, and their followers are notified the moment they post. Around 79% of featured launches on Product Hunt are self-hunted by their makers, but a well-known hunter still acts as a signal of quality to the rest of the community.
