I built the Resume Screening & Shortlist Agent because I wanted to solve a bottleneck every hiring manager and recruiter knows all too well: the exhaustion of manually reviewing endless resume piles, or the frustration of relying on basic keyword-matching tools that miss the real context of a candidate's background.
💡 What inspired this & the problem I wanted to solve
In fast-moving environments, sorting through hundreds of applicants takes hours away from actual face-to-face interviewing and evaluation. But outsourcing that filtering to black-box AI tools creates compliance risks and a lack of transparency.
I wanted to build an agent that functions like a meticulous analytical assistant—one that doesn't make hiring decisions, but gives you a clean, structured, and auditable starting point.
🔄 How my approach evolved
During development, the biggest challenge was finding the right balance between automation and human judgment. Early iterations tried to assign arbitrary percentage scores, which felt too rigid and opaque.
My approach evolved toward evidence-based transparency. Instead of just giving a score, the agent now forces out the "why"—providing 2–3 sentence justifications, highlighting specific strengths and gaps, and even drafting custom screening questions for the interview phase. Crucially, it's built to respect boundaries: it ignores protected characteristics and leaves the final decision strictly in the hands of the human recruiter.
