Hey PH 👋 Keerthi here, maker of remove background online.
This started with a passport photo.
I needed a plain white-background headshot, and every tool I tried had the same catch: upload your photo to someone's server, create an account, and then — surprise — the HD download sits behind credits or arrives with a watermark. The "free" version was always a low-res teaser.
Then I watched the network tab while one of these tools "processed" my photo, and realized what was actually happening: my personal pictures were traveling to a stranger's cloud just to have a background removed.
That bugged me. Segmentation models are small enough to run on your own device — so why is every tool a server pipeline?
So I built the opposite:
📸 Zero uploads — the AI (an open-source ISNet model) runs entirely in your browser. Photos never leave your device. That's not a privacy policy, it's the architecture — there is no upload code path at all.
🆓 Free, unlimited, full resolution — no credits, no watermark, no premium tier gating HD. 12MP in, 12MP out.
⚡ Works offline after the first visit — the model (~45–90 MB) is cached
once, then it runs even on a plane.
✂️ Plus white backgrounds for LinkedIn/CVs, custom colors, green-screen
removal, and a magic brush for hair edges.
The honest tradeoff: that first model download. I chose telling the truth over a fake "instant, no wait!" promise.
I'm in the comments all day — tell me what breaks, what's missing, what you'd use daily. Roast it, break it, push it. 🙏
