Reflow started with a PDF manuscript from a friend.
I was beta reading her book, but reading a huge PDF on my phone with my myopia meant constantly turning the screen landscape and zooming in and out. I really wanted to finish the book without disappointing her, so I went looking for a PDF-to-EPUB converter.
Most of the ones I found wanted me to pay. Eventually I found a freemium one and converted the manuscript, only to open the EPUB and find what looked like someone had spilled ink all over the printer. Technically, it had converted. Practically, there was nothing readable.
So I decided to build one myself with my limited frontend skills.
The first version worked, but it lost the structure of the manuscript. Chapters and the table of contents disappeared, and so did the images. As a writer working on my own debut novel, that wasn't good enough. If I was going to make a tool for writers and readers, I wanted it to actually handle their books properly.
So I kept building. Reflow can now detect chapters, headings and page breaks, while letting you manually split sections when it can't detect them. You can split into chapters or normal text, merge sections, and preserve images too.
What started as a tool I needed for one manuscript turned into something I wanted to make genuinely useful for anyone who needs to turn a PDF into a readable EPUB.
