Hi everyone, this is Redirect Chain Checker API.
It follows a URL's HTTP redirects one hop at a time (up to 10) and reports, for every hop, the status code, the Location header, the response time and a change type such as https_upgrade_only, www_only, cross_domain or trailing_slash. It then judges the chain from an SEO and performance point of view and returns coded issues, a grade (A+ to F) and a score out of 100, plus the final URL, counts of permanent (301/308) and temporary (302/303/307) redirects and the total time.
Issue codes include redirect_loop, too_many_redirects, final_error, host_unresolvable, tls_certificate_invalid, https_downgrade, chain_too_long, temporary_for_canonical, no_https_upgrade and slow_chain. A chain that ends in an error, loop or timeout still comes back as HTTP 200 with the details in the report.
Endpoint: GET /v1/trace?url= with optional ua=default|desktop|mobile and fresh=1. Results are cached for 15 minutes; fresh=1 bypasses the cache.
Limits: only HTTP redirects are followed - meta refresh and JavaScript redirects are not. ua only changes the browser-like User-Agent string (no device emulation, cookies or language headers) and is not a Googlebot simulation. Each hop has an 8 second timeout and the whole trace 25 seconds. Requests come from a datacenter, so geo- or cookie-based redirects reflect that location. chain_too_long and slow_chain are heuristic thresholds. One error scores 75 (grade C), so gate on summary.errors. Private-network targets are rejected at every hop. Not affiliated with any search engine.
Where to find it: RapidAPI (public, https://rapidapi.com/tossneon0/a...), API.Market and APIHub. Product site: https://redirect-trace.glowhalo.org
Feedback on the checks and the scoring is welcome.
