Hey friends! I'm Richard co-founder of reconfigured - an AI-assisted journaling style note-taking app for analysts
Working with data is closer to being a detective than a software engineer. Most of the time you can’t predict the exact steps needed to solve a problem, let alone what the end-result will be.
What matters most is the discoveries you make along the way - trials and errors, nuances, your thought process. These are almost always scribbles in your notebook, digital or physical.
Our goal is to give analysts a tool that makes it incredibly easy to track your data quests and make that knowledge accessible to colleagues.
If you’re ever played games like Skyrim or Fallout, you’ll find the UI and mechanics very familiar. Hence the word quests. :)
The app is very much modelled after quest journals:
- Quests have a loose title and summary
- You usually have one quest active at a time
- New todos and steps are uncovered as you progress
Some highlight features that our users love:
- Hotkeys - show/hide journal with a button, directly add notes to active quests with another.
- In addition to written notes, adding screenshots, automatic code highlight and voice notes
- Chat with your thought process - the embedded AI let’s you discuss your findings, sort through them or remind you what were you thinking in the past.
We’re an early-stage startup from Helsinki, Finland and after a hard pivot we’re finally launching our new product.
It’s free to use, with upgrade options for extra functionality and teams.
Our ambition is to create a JIRA alternative that isn’t centered around tickets, cards and points - but rather connected journals.
We’re building this with data/analytics teams’ workflows in mind, but feedback has been that this could fit other, research-heavy type of work, e.g. product discovery, user research, academic work, even journalism.
Thank you everyone, we had a great run 🫶 this was our first ever product hunt launch and we made it to top 10! Thanks to all of you, we got featured in the latest newsletter too :-) 🙏
Turning on-going notes into retrievable documentation is such a crucial need in our workflow. I love how this journal app focuses on the investigative aspect. Can’t wait to upvote this and see how it evolves!
This is a pretty cool app. I'm definitely going to try it out!
Good stuff Richard
I recently got to know about Richard and Niko on LinkedIn, and when Richard showed me Reconfigured, I was instantly curious to learn more about it. The tool is designed with data analysts and engineers in mind, and it’s packed with features that make life so much easier.
From quick hotkeys to jot down notes or add screenshots to the embedded AI that helps organize your thought process. From my point of view it’s a game-changer. It keeps everything structured, tracks your progress like a quest, and even makes it easier to share insights with your team. If you’re tired of losing ideas in random files or chats, this is definitely worth checking out!
Absolutely love what you’re building! Gamifying data tasks makes them so much easier (and more fun) to tackle. I’ll definitely be following along for updates 👏
Revolutionizing workspace setups! A must-have tool for anyone looking to optimize their environment. Kudos to the team!
This is going to be a massive productivity boost for analysts. So fun to see this massive pivot leading to a really delightful & valuable product. Go @thesnappingdog & @nipsuli !!!
Really cool product, whenever I am doing content creation it's usefill to drop down key ideas and metrics from other videos for research.
I just started using reconfigured a few weeks ago and can’t wait to see where it goes next.
I found reconfigured through my network and I'm so happy I did. I've been piloting it now for a few months and it's essentially replaced my old school pen and paper. I recognize this may be blashpemy to my fellow serial note takers, but really, it's so good.
Things I love about it:
- Ease of use : it's just as easy for me to use a hotkey to record context in real time as it is to use pen & paper
- Embedded AI : imagine being able to talk to your notes - the sky suddenly looks a lot brighter, right?
- Unparalleled support : Aside from Richard and Niko simply being really solid people, they've set a new bar when it comes to SaaS support for me. Just super effort on their part making the app accessible, answering questions, and slinging solutions to any and every bug (and honestly, there have only been one or two that have impacted my experience and they were solved almost before I could even notice.
Things I'm looking forward to:
- Connecting to DB : Being able to tie context to query will be a communication revelation. Numbers are numbers, but finding shared understanding of the numbers is a surprising challenge especially when working cross-functionally within an org.
- Embedded AI : seeing how it develops over time. Specifically how it handles taking seemingly unrelated context and matching it, or suggesting insights between seemingly unrelated quests.
- Co-Op mode : being able to share quests with teammates. Sharing context about interoperable teams could mean shared understanding which makes the path from 'huh?' to insight a lot smoother and hopefully a lot faster.
People don't often think of data as an incredibly creative field, but in order to solve problems, one must be creative. With creativity comes ideas and with ideas come questions - not even just your own. Stakeholders and teammates bring an additional layer of questions and ideas, and pretty soon you're dealing with a continually evolving - and often nebulous - tome of thoughts, questions, ideas, queries, ect. It gets pretty noisy without something to keep guardrails on the whole thing. If this sounds familiar, please check out reconfigured. It's a crazy useful tool.
Analytics is too often thought of as just visuals, dashboards, and code. To me the essence of analytics is really to calibrate intuition, which requires deep thought and exploration. I love that you’re breaking away from the trend of crapping out endless dashboards and pipelines and instead bringing analytics back to the fundamentals.
Having my everything structured in a journal app specifically designed for analysts is a huge time saving.
Big fan of anything that @thesnappingdog and @nipsuli do!
Love the parallel with video games and I can imagine this also being super helpful with automation-related tasks.
Good luck with the launch my friends 🫶
I loved using this for a few days and found that it really fit inside the natural flow of acquiring insights and analysis and then making it easy to communicate the entire story back to stakeholders.
Critically important for those of us working inside a business but with technology counterparts who want to figuratively speak a different language.
Great work and I am excited about SOC compliance so I can use this with my financial clients too!
Congrats on the launch of Reconfigured, Richard! This is a fantastic approach for analysts, combining AI and a quest-style journaling system to streamline data discovery. Best of luck with the product’s growth!
Wow, that's a very surprising pivot. But so close to my own experience, all that data-related knowledge lost in random slack and email convos may find its own place going forward. Great presentation!
