I'm T. I spent 10+ years in security engineering — recon, pentests, incident work — and ReconAlert came out of watching the same breach story repeat.
It's almost never the thing a company is guarding. It's a forgotten staging subdomain. A storage bucket someone made public "temporarily" in 2022. A domain anyone can spoof because DMARC was started and never finished. Stuff nobody knew was there.
Enterprises pay for attack-surface management to find exactly that. A 30-person company can't — the tools start around $300–450/mo, and most only look at your code or your endpoints, not the unknown assets already facing the internet.
What it does: point it at a domain, get a scan back in about a minute — exposed subdomains, open ports, TLS issues, missing security headers, email spoofability — each with a plain-English fix, not just a severity badge.
Three things I got wrong first:
• Findings aren't the product — fixes are. My first version produced a beautiful list of problems and was useless. Now every finding ships with the exact config to paste.
• Detection over exploitation. I built agentic pentests, then deliberately capped them: read-only by default, intrusive tests only on domains you've proven you own. A scanner that breaks your site is worse than no scanner.
• Dogfooding hurts, and it's the only honest test. I pointed ReconAlert at ReconAlert. It found a real misconfiguration in my own production API, and the code scanner surfaced a false-positive bug in itself. Both shipped as fixes that week.

Would love to see a "diff view" that shows exactly what changed between scans. As an SMB owner running this weekly, it would help me spot new risky exposures fast and ignore the noise.
Nice tool for SMBs. One thing that would make it even better is a weekly email digest with a simple risk score trend, so I can see if my attack surface is growing or shrinking over time without logging in every day.

Love how the dashboard surfaces only the risky findings first instead of burying them in noise, makes triaging feel manageable for a small team.
Ran the scan on a couple of side projects and it actually flagged a forgotten S3 bucket I had no idea was public, which was a real wake-up call. The dashboard is clean and the subdomain discovery picked up a few assets my other tools missed.
Would love to see a Slack or Teams alert channel so my team gets pinged the moment a new subdomain or open port pops up, instead of having to log into the dashboard daily. That would close the loop for us.
would be great if you could add scheduled PDF reports sent to a non technical manager, kind of like a monthly summary they can actually read without needing to log in
Subdomain discovery caught a forgotten staging server we did not know was still live, which already makes it worth it. The dashboard is clean and the alerts are not noisy.
Really glad to see something like this aimed at smaller teams. One thing that would make it way more useful for me would be a Slack or webhook alert that only fires when a new asset pops up or a previously clean subdomain suddenly becomes exposed, so the daily noise doesn't get ignored.
Would love to see a simple diff view between scans so I can quickly spot what changed since the last run. Right now it feels hard to tell if a new subdomain popping up is actually mine or just noise, and a side by side comparison would make triage way faster for someone like me who is not a full time security engineer.
