I was getting irritated on a few issues which ended up driving this: I found out there was a significant safety recall on an item we had in the house. The catch? it was three months later than the release of the recall! This got me thinking about everything else we owned. I was manually entering items in federal databases... A month ago or so I got frustrated enough where I wanted to not ever have to do this again so I set out to find a solution. That's where this website came into fruition. I have done a small number of other projects like this which I still use today, but this is the first one I felt was maybe useful enough to enough people where I decided to make a public website for others to use. This problem in particular seems like an unnecessary burden for all of us. So the project: Basically log all of your stuff (manual entry, barcode scan, and/or snap some photos) then sit back and wait for the push notification if any of your items ever hit a recall list. This is a bit of a chore initially for everything you already own. But, going forward it's a breeze, as you just scan/snap anytime you make a purchase. Easy peasy. I hope it's useful to others, and I would greatly appreciate some feedback and suggestions for expansion!
