ReadX is a native Android PDF reader built with C++ Pdfium and Jetpack Compose. Highlight any confusing text in dense textbooks or research papers to get instant in-place AI explanations without ever leaving your document.
Hey Product Hunt community! 👋
I'm Krishna, a student and developer from India.
Over the past few semesters, I spent hundreds of hours reading dense academic papers, machine learning textbooks, and technical documentation on my phone.
Most existing mobile PDF apps feel stuck in 2012:
- They lag on 100-page files.
- Web AI tools force you into clunky sidebar chat windows that crush your PDF text on a mobile screen.
- Copy-pasting text to ChatGPT every 2 minutes completely destroys your reading flow.
So I decided to build ReadX from scratch.
Here is how it works under the hood:
1. In-Place AI Explanations: When you highlight a confusing sentence, a dynamic card anchors directly above your selection and explains the concept in plain English. No app switching, no losing your place.
2. 120Hz Native Speed: Powered by direct C++ Pdfium bindings with Jetpack Compose for buttery smooth scrolling across 400+ page books.
3. Cosmic Space Theme: A custom AMOLED dark theme with starlight particles designed specifically to prevent eye fatigue during late-night study sessions.
4. Document Chat with Citations: Ask questions across the whole document, and every answer cites the exact page number so you can verify the source.
5. Privacy & BYOK: A clean free tier is included, or you can plug in your own API keys (Groq, Gemini, OpenAI) for zero rate limits. Your highlights and notes stay on your device.
I'd love to hear your feedback, thoughts on the mobile interaction model, or what feature we should drop next!
Thank you for checking out ReadX 🤘
