rdsql is a psql-style terminal client for Aurora that talks to the RDS Data API over HTTPS. You don't need a VPN, bastion host, or SSH tunnel. It has an interactive REPL, \d to describe tables, table/JSON/CSV/HTML output, and named connections. Free and MIT-licensed.
Hey Product Hunt 👋
I built rdsql because getting to an Aurora database from a laptop was always harder than it should be. You need a VPN, a bastion, or an SSH tunnel, plus a password kept somewhere. Then your security group has to allow it.
The RDS Data API gets around all of that. It's an HTTPS endpoint that runs SQL using your IAM credentials and a Secrets Manager secret. But the only official way to use it from a terminal was `aws rds-data execute-statement`, which returns raw JSON and has no REPL.
rdsql gives you a psql-style client on top of it:
• An interactive REPL with multi-line SQL
• psql-style \d / \d+ to list and describe tables, views, and indexes
• Output as a table, JSON, CSV, or HTML
• Named connections (rdsql use prod) that work with your AWS profiles
• rdsql configure, a wizard that finds your clusters and secrets for you
• One-shot rdsql query "..." --format csv for scripts and cron jobs
Install: npm install -g rds-data-api-cli
It's free and MIT-licensed. I'd love feedback, especially from anyone running Aurora Serverless who wants the next feature. What should it be?
