Hi all! I'm Jordan, Product Designer at Raycast 👋🏻
We’re super excited to be kicking off the new year with our first release, Raycast Focus! This idea was born from one of our Rayday’s, and has since become another invaluable tool to many on the team.
Big shout out to @adilrc for tackling this feature head on, and his attention to detail. And to @thomaspaulmann & @petr_nikolaev for riffing and building the early prototype. 👏🏻
Now it’s your turn to set a goal, block out distractions and get more work done in 2025! 💪🏻
Here’s what to expect:🎯 Set your Goal: This can be a specific task, or a broader aim for the whole day
⏲️ Choose a Duration: Define how long you want to focus for. You can use natural language like “Until 6pm”.
🚫 Block apps & websites: Block out all the distracting apps and websites on your mac that try to pull you away from your focus. You can add websites and apps individually, or select from our set of categories like “Social Media” or “Streaming”.
You’re in full control throughout your focus session. So if there’s an urgent Slack message or waiting for code to compile, you can easily snooze the block then jump right back to your work.

Enjoy your focus time, and we can’t wait to hear your feedback!
Hey Raycast team! Congrats on the new Focus Mode—it’s such a cool addition to a lot of already amazing features ! 🎉
I did notice, though, that it’s not quite blocking websites on the Sidekick browser as well as I'd hoped.
Also, having a focus session counter would be amazing for keeping track of my sessions and staying motivated.
Keep up the awesome work! 🚀
Raycast Focus is a game-changer for productivity! It helps me stay on track by minimizing distractions and reducing context switching. Love the ability to set goals, choose durations, and block distracting apps and websites. Can't wait for the Windows version to launch—this is exactly what I need to stay focused across all my devices!
Great launch and feature!
@adilrc @thomaspaulmann @petr_nikolaev @jordanamblin
However, it’s missing a key functionality: once the focus time ends or is manually completed, the extension should automatically reopen the apps it closed. Additionally, it would be fantastic if it could remember which screen or desktop the apps were on and restore them to the same location. This disruption to my workflow makes it tedious to manually reopen and reorganise apps after each focus session.
The ability to block both apps and websites is awesome. Usually you'd have to use 2+ tools to accomplish just that. Great job @Raycast team!
2023 was a big leap in productivity thanks to speeding up or skipping more and more context switching thanks to Raycast.
2024 brought Raycast AI and not only brought me a side kick coder of sorts but the fastest reference tool, I’ve 10X my knowledge in the shortest time.
2025 kicks off with this highly polished Focus Session functionality. To the 🌝🚀
I dreamed about such feature, great job guys
It would also be great to switch the focus mode on a MacBook, launch shortcuts or extension commands, and update the status in Slack at the start of a focus session
Damn!

can't wait for it to launch for windows. Congrats on the launch!
In-fucking-credible addition to already one of my favorite apps! I used to this with a duct taped solution of OneSec + Ochi + Focus Mode but it got annoying and never stuck. I can feel that THIS IS IT!
That video was unbelievable. Hats off to the marketing and creative team. This feature is invaluable 🎯
I context switch constantly! Def gonna try it out. Looks super cool Raycast team.
Look forward to seeing this evolve! Now I can use one less app just for my Focus pomodoro/sessions! Congrats, and the video is fantastic! 🧘
