I was annoyed that for every topic I was searching for a ranking, that I had to visit a different site - IMDB for movies, transfermarkt for soccer - there is not one site where users decide what is popular and help others select.
Also I wanted to have a fair ranking approach (ELO) and not a purely voting based systematic. I invested a lot of time in the build of the ELO logic, with consistency checks etc.
