Hey Product Hunt! 👋 Shuhui here.
I wanted a puppy growing up and never got one, so I built one. PuppyTricks is a corgi that reacts to your hand gestures through your webcam. Open palm to stay, point up to sit, thumbs up for a good doggy.
This was also my way of getting properly hands-on with things that usually sit outside my day-to-day as a product designer, GitHub, deployment, browser APIs, gesture detection. Reading how something's built is one thing. Hitting the actual errors myself and working through them is a different kind of learning.
Gesture timing turned out to be the hardest part. Too fast and it fires by accident, too slow and it feels unresponsive. Took a lot of iteration to land somewhere that felt natural.
Would love to know what gesture you find yourself using most, that's actually something I'm tracking to understand how people naturally interact with it.
Genuinely caught me off guard how well the gesture tracking works in the browser, no lag. The corgi doing a little head tilt on a thumbs up is exactly the kind of dumb delight I needed today.
