I am Jim, the solo developer behind Price Mantis.
I built Price Mantis because I wanted more data than what tools like Camel provide. Tracking basic price swings is useful, but price alone does not tell the full story—a 40% discount is
meaningless if product quality plummeted or a seller is dumping dead stock.
I wanted deeper metrics like Sales Rank (BSR) velocity to gauge real demand, alongside review score history to expose artificial review spikes and bad batches. Meanwhile, newer extensions raised serious
privacy red flags by secretly turning users' browsers into background scrapers.
Richer product data: In addition to direct Amazon, third-party new, and used pricing, we capture historical Sales Rank and review score trends so you have actual context before buying.
Privacy-first architecture: All tracking runs strictly on our own backend servers. The extension stays lightweight, requests minimal permissions, and never uses your browser to scrape Amazon.
Today, Price Mantis tracks Amazon US products, adding thousands more every day across the web app and our Chrome, Firefox, and Edge extensions.
