Hi Product Hunt, I’m Holger, one of the makers behind serrv. serrv is a small Mac app for previewing static websites before they go live. The basic idea is simple: instead of opening a website folder directly in the browser, serrv gives each site a real local HTTPS address, for example: https://portfolio.local/ That means your static site runs from a real local web server, with a secure lock icon, proper paths, clean URLs, scripts, browser security behavior and secure-context APIs — much closer to how the site will behave once published. The setup is intentionally simple: Name your site Choose the folder Open the local HTTPS address in any browser serrv is built for static sites only: HTML, CSS, JavaScript and assets. It works with hand-coded sites, Eleventy, Astro, Hugo or AI-generated static websites. The free version supports up to 3 sites and needs no account. serrv max adds unlimited sites, FTP/SFTP upload, site duplication, custom ordering and local HTML checks for issues like broken tags, missing alt text and duplicate IDs.

Hey Product Hunt 👋

I build Mac apps at MAMP, and serrv came out of a problem that kept biting me: a finished static site opens fine on a live server, but double-click it locally and things quietly break — missing images, dead links, blank sections, no lock icon. file:// just isn't the real thing.

serrv fixes that. Point it at a folder, and your site runs on a real local web server at a proper address like https://portfolio.local/ — secure lock icon and all. So you see exactly what your visitors will get, before you publish.

It's for anyone building static sites — by hand, with Eleventy/Astro, or with AI. Free for up to 3 sites; serrv max adds unlimited sites, FTP/SFTP upload and HTML checks.

Huge thanks to Caddy and rclone — serrv stands on both. 🙏

Happy to answer anything, and I'd genuinely love your feedback!
