Hey Product Hunt
I've spent the last 10 yearsaround 3D printing and filament, and kept running into
the same story from podiatry clinics: they want to print their own custom insoles, and
the moment they look into it they're quoted a bundle — proprietary printer, captive
material, locked software — for €3,000–8,000 up front and €50–100/kg for TPU that
costs €30/kg on the open market. Leave the ecosystem and your files come with you only
as a black box, if at all.
The thing is, the printing part is already solved. Any decent FDM printer handles TPU.
What was missing was software that speaks podiatry instead of CAD, and that hands you a
standard file at the end.
So we built Podia3D. It runs in the browser and works like this:
◆ You design from clinical parameters, not geometry — arch, heel cup, postings in
degrees, contour. Corrections go on by their clinical name: Cluffy, retrocapital bar,
fasciitis trident, wedges, offloads.
◆ You set firmness per anatomical zone (rearfoot / midfoot / forefoot), and those zones
travel into the 3MF as real print modifiers, so you're not rebuilding them by hand in
your slicer.
◆ A foot or cast scan can be loaded as a visual reference for placing and sizing — it
does NOT become the final mesh, so scan noise never ends up in the part.
◆ You export a watertight STL for any slicer, or a 3MF project with TPU settings and
modifiers ready for Bambu Studio / OrcaSlicer.
Being straight with you about what this is not: Podia3D is a v0 prototype and it is NOT
certified as medical device software. The MDR documentation it produces is a working
draft — review, signature and final conformity stay with the responsible manufacturer.
It also isn't a magic scan-to-insole button, and it doesn't replace clinical judgement.
I'd rather say that here than have someone find out later.
What I'm actually after today: podiatrists, orthotic labs and anyone doing FDM/TPU work
who's willing to run a real case through it and tell me where it breaks. Especially on
print behaviour — whether the firmness zones actually feel the way the parameters say
they should once the part is off the bed.
