I'm Vlada, a solo developer from Munich. Planterra is my first App Store launch.
Backstory: I've killed a lot of plants. Not for lack of trying, I read the care sheets, followed the reminders, watered on schedule. But every plant app I tried gave the same generic advice: "bright indirect light," "water when soil is dry." Meanwhile my Monstera in the north-facing corner was slowly dying while its identical twin two rooms over was thriving. Same care schedule, same species. Different rooms. Nothing in any app accounted for that.
So I built the thing I wished existed.
Planterra maps every window in your home once (compass direction, sun path across the day). From there, every plant recommendation is grounded in YOUR specific rooms. It knows which corners peak at noon, which lose light in winter, which are best for a shade-lover vs a sun-worshipper.
The second thing that got me was that plant apps have no memory. Every time you asked about a symptom it was like starting from scratch. So every plant in Planterra has a patient card, a running record of everything that's happened. Water history, fertilizing, repotting, past diagnoses, what worked, what didn't. The Doctor reads the whole card before answering, so month-three yellow leaves get treated as a follow-up to month-one overwatering, not a stranger's problem.
Eight months of building after work. No investors, no team, no marketing agency. Just me, my plants, and a lot of coffee.
The hardest part was cutting features. I wanted to build 20 things; I shipped 6. Every feature that made it in has a real reason. Every one I cut is in a v1.1 doc that keeps me honest.
