PlaneCrashData
Is your flight safe? 100+ years of crash data in 3D
PlaneCrashData is an open aviation safety intelligence platform that visualizes over a century of flight incident history (1919–Present) and provides instant safety score lookups for any commercial flight in the world. Aviation incident data has historically been gatekept by antiquated 90s-era government websites or paywalled enterprise APIs. As both an engineer and traveler, I wanted to build a platform that gives passengers and avgeeks instant clarity without sensationalism.
Hey Product Hunt! 👋
I’m Mauro, the creator of PlaneCrashData (https://www.planecrashdata.com/).
The idea started from a very common feeling: sitting at an airport gate, wondering: "How safe is this specific aircraft model? What’s the safety track record of this airline or this exact flight route?"
Most aviation safety data on the internet is either buried inside clunky 90s-style government databases or locked behind expensive enterprise aviation subscriptions. I wanted to build something fast, beautiful, objective, and completely free for both anxious travelers and avgeeks.
🔍 Key features you can try right now:
1. **Check My Flight**: Search your upcoming flight number to check aircraft safety ratings and incident history.
2. **Interactive 3D Incident Globe**: Filter by year (1919–2026), airline, or aircraft type.
3. **Safety Rankings**: Compare airlines and aircraft types objectively based on incident-free passenger kilometers.
I’d love to hear your feedback on the UX, performance, or ideas for features you'd like to see next!
What’s your upcoming flight? Try searching it and let me know how it looks! ✈️
