Ridiculously simple and lightweight placeholders. Under 3KB compressed. Add image placeholders to your React development project easily or use our CDN.
Hey all! My name is Owen, I'm the developer behind PlaceholderJS. Since the demise of placeholder.com, I wanted to be able to use placeholders on my React projects via a package so that way I don't have to worry about these services shutting down again in the future.
Additionally, for our non-React developers out there, I created a simple CDN that functions similarly.
I stumbled upon this from a friend, it's a decent idea but I'm not convinced it's solving any real problem, feels like a band-aid for something that might not be an issue, curious if you've thought about expanding it beyond just React or the CDN part, maybe add options for customization and more flexibility, otherwise seems limited
Oh great, another placeholder service, just what we needed, I mean we've already got Lorem Ipsum and dummyimage.com among others, what makes this one stand out, it might be under 3KB but honestly who needs another CDN service when we have so many libraries doing the same thing, hope it doesn't end up like placeholder.com, shutting down when people start relying on it, cool idea but doesn't feel truly necessary, excited to see how it actually performs in the long run
Congrats, Owen! 🎉 PlaceholderJS sounds like a game-changer for React developers. The ease of adding image placeholders while keeping it under 3KB is impressive. Love the proactive approach to ensure stability in our projects. Excited to see the traction it gains on PH! Keep up the great work, Makers!
PlaceholderJS is a breeze for React developers! At under 3KB, it’s lightweight and easy to implement. The CDN option is a nice touch for those not using React. This tool alleviates past concerns about placeholder services disappearing—definitely a smart choice for any project needing placeholders. Great job, Owen!
Great job! That's actually really useful 😊. Bookmarked in my brain for later 🧠.
Make sure you post this on HackerNews, you'll get a lot of traffic and happy users from there.
The CDN method for placeholders makes integrating into my projects a breeze. also I can customize the text and colors directly in the URL—so handy!
I love how straightforward this tool is. Just adjust the URL to set the size and text of the placeholders. It’s a huge time-saver for my development work.
This placeholder service is exactly what I needed. It’s super simple to use with just a URL and a few parameters. Perfect for quickly adding placeholders in my projects!
The CDN option is a smart addition, especially for those who aren't using React. Can’t wait to start using it and streamline my placeholder needs.
The compact size and react integration make it super convenient for development. Great to have a reliable option that won’t suddenly disappear!
Just give it a spin, and it works flawlessly! I do think it could be even better if there were a feature to adjust font size, though. Still, a great tool overall.
It would be awesome to see support for more text formatting options in the future. That would add even more flexibility!
Nice 👏, I've recently been looking for exactly this feature - simple placeholder serving lightweight SVG images. Thanks!
Sounds like a super handy tool. Haven't dived deep yet, but the idea of a reliable placeholder for React projects is cool. Congrats and good luck with the launch!
Love the idea behind PlaceholderJS. It's nice to have an option that won't just disappear on you. Also, the fact you've got a CDN for non-React folks is a thoughtful touch. Appreciate the effort here, Owen. 👏
This is a fantastic project, @bick! The lightweight nature of PlaceholderJS is a huge plus for React developers, especially with performance in mind. Great to see alternatives emerging after placeholder.com, and the CDN option is just icing on the cake! Upvoted!
Congrats on the launch! Your vision and dedication have brought you here. I’m so excited to see the impact you’ll make. Keep shining! 🌈@bick
