I built Pixel Islands because every step tracker I tried made me feel bad. Red rings, broken streaks, "you didn't hit your goal", I didn't need a disappointed coach in my pocket, I needed a reason to take the long way home.
So here's the idea: your steps grow a tiny floating island. Walk today and a bare rock sprouts grass. Keep going and a stream appears, then a house, then cherry trees: 8 stages from nothing to a little world. Finish it and you pick your next theme: a Japanese shrine, Norse Asgard, a steampunk skyport, a neon cyberpunk block.
Things I decided early and stuck to:
🌱 No failure states. A slow week just means the island grows slower. Progress never resets out of spite. 🔒 Only reads your step count from Apple Health. All data is private.📱 Widget-first. The island lives on your home screen; checking progress takes three seconds. ⌚ Apple Watch steps count automatically.
It's free (premium unlocks extra island themes). iOS 17+, 20 languages.
