Hey Product Hunt 👋
William here — solo maker. I'm a daily-games person (Wordle, Connections, the
LinkedIn ones — I do them all), and a long-time GeoGuessr lurker. There was
always a gap I couldn't get over: nothing sat in the "two-minute geography
puzzle" slot. GeoGuessr is brilliant but takes 20 minutes. Worldle is fun but
it's just country shapes. I wanted something with the NYT puzzles' rhythm —
fast, modern, hard enough to actually teach you something — but for places
on a map.
So I built PinDrop. 5 locations a day. Drop a pin. Score by distance. Build a
streak. ~2 minutes total. Free, no signup.
The story: I launched March 4th, 2026 — my parents' anniversary — with five
locations that meant something to them. Day one, 200 people played. Eight
weeks later: 11,000+ unique players from 40 countries, 45,500+ rounds. The
biggest surprise has been how fast it stopped being a family thing.
Coworkers playing it on Slack. Kids learning where Suriname is. People DMing
me streaks they're weirdly protective of.
What's evolved since launch:
🌎 City games (NYC, Chicago, LA, SF) — street-level pinning
🏈 College Football — find the FBS stadium
👯 Private Groups — same puzzle, your friends, your leaderboard
✉️ Optional daily email at 7am in your timezone
The tagline I keep coming back to: drop a pin, find the world.
Would love your feedback — especially the rough edges. What's broken? What
should be next? I read every comment and DM.

Who hunted PinDrop?
PinDrop was hunted by William Watkins. A “hunter” on Product Hunt is the community member who submits a product to the platform — uploading the images, the link, and tagging the makers behind it. Hunters typically write the first comment explaining why a product is worth attention, and their followers are notified the moment they post. Around 79% of featured launches on Product Hunt are self-hunted by their makers, but a well-known hunter still acts as a signal of quality to the rest of the community.
