Pick.
Photography, Design Tools, Android, Social Media, Privacy
Most of us have a photo where one thing mattered: a red coat, a yellow umbrella, a kid's blue boots. Everything else in the frame competes with it. Pick. lets you touch that color to keep it and turns the rest black and white. Keep up to 5 colors or a whole person, limit color to an area, and brush away stray spots. Every edit runs on your phone, so photos are never uploaded. No account, no watermark. Free to use, with a one-time Pro upgrade and no subscription.
Hi Product Hunt!
Try this: open your camera roll and stop on a photo you love. Then ask yourself what you were actually looking at when you took it.
For me it is almost always one thing. A red umbrella on a gray street. My kid's yellow raincoat. A single blue door. And in the photo, that one thing is fighting with forty other colors for attention.
Color splash, keeping one color and turning the rest black and white, is the oldest trick for this. Around 2 million posts on #colorsplash. But when I tried the apps, the top complaints were always the same: ads everywhere, watermarks on your own photo, and subscriptions for a one-tap effect.
Pick. is my attempt at doing this one thing quietly and well.
WHAT IT ACTUALLY DOES FOR YOU
You pick a photo and touch the umbrella. The color soaks outward from your finger, and everything else turns to ink. That's the whole first minute.
One touch, and the color stays.
Pick. keeps colors close to the one you touched across the photo. Add up to 5 colors, widen or narrow the range, or tap the subject button to keep a whole person in color (on-device subject detection, Android 7.0+ with Google Play services).
Your photos stay on your phone.
All color processing and subject detection run on your device. Photos are never uploaded. No account, no login.
No watermark. Actually no watermark.
Free saves have no watermark, not even a small one in the corner. Fixing the edges takes a fingertip: limit color to a circle, square or traced area, or brush stray color back to gray. Then pick a black-and-white mood: Natural, Soft, Deep, High-key, Film, Sepia or Cool.
Price: free to use, with ads. Every editing feature is in the free version. Pick. Pro is a one-time purchase (best-quality export, square/4:5/9:16/16:9 shapes, free cropping, no ads). No subscription.
Android now, in 17 languages.
WHY I THINK THIS MATTERS
Photo editors usually compete on doing more: more filters, more AI, more sliders. That's right for a professional workflow. But for most of us, the problem with a photo isn't that it's missing something. It's that too much is in it.
What I underestimated was how much of the job is the cleanup. Picking a color takes one tap, but everything else in the photo that shares that color stays too. Most of the work in Pick. went into making the cleanup feel as light as that first tap.
Two questions for you:
1. What's a photo where you'd keep just one color? Tell me the color. If a type of photo keeps coming up that Pick. handles badly, I'll fix that next.
2. Is color splash a timeless technique, or a 2012 effect that should stay in 2012? Or am I just too attached to it?
Thanks for taking a look. I'll be here all day.

Who hunted Pick.?
Pick. was hunted by Tomor. A “hunter” on Product Hunt is the community member who submits a product to the platform — uploading the images, the link, and tagging the makers behind it. Hunters typically write the first comment explaining why a product is worth attention, and their followers are notified the moment they post. Around 79% of featured launches on Product Hunt are self-hunted by their makers, but a well-known hunter still acts as a signal of quality to the rest of the community.
