PI.FYI's approach to social networking through shared tastes is refreshing—curating a space for taste-driven connections clearly resonates with audiences. How did you refine the user experience to foster such a vibrant community?

Hi everyone! I wanted to pop in and share some PI.FYI lore.
In 2020, I started a popular recommendation newsletter called Perfectly Imperfect as a side project while I was still an engineer at Facebook. Over the next few years, we built a cult following of 64,000 subscribers with a simple mission of sharing "A Taste of Someone's Taste" while helping people break out of their algorithm.
Later on I realized that the newsletter's core concept could be expanded upon with an app that allowed for anyone to share + ask for recommendations. I had all of the skills to build it, so when I was part of a mass lay-off last year, I hit the ground running on PI.FYI.
It launched back in late-January with profiles in The Verge, The New York Times, New York Magazine, and NPR. And just a few weeks later we had over 20,000 users and nearly 100,000 recommendations shared.
I wanted this place to feel like the internet did when I was growing up. A time before every site looked exactly the same and we all became prey for the toxic ad-driven algorithms of big corporations.
