Hi Product Hunt I built Philologica because I kept seeing the same problem with AI and academic writing: the models were becoming increasingly capable, but the workflow around them was still basically a chat box. For serious manuscript review, that wasn’t enough. A thesis or research paper can look finished while still hiding problems such as citations with no matching reference, bibliography entries that are never cited, terminology that changes between chapters, weak inferential links, unsupported conclusions, or abrupt shifts in style. I wanted a system that could help surface these issues without asking the researcher to blindly trust an AI-generated answer. That became Philologica. Instead of treating a manuscript as another prompt, Philologica treats it as a project. You choose a review objective — document analysis, source verification, argumentation and terminology, style and authorship, or publication preparation — and receive structured findings linked back to the manuscript. One principle has guided the product from the beginning: AI should help researchers verify their work, not replace their judgment. That’s why traceability is central to the workflow: findings should point to the relevant location, evidence and source whenever possible, so the researcher can inspect the reasoning and make the final decision. We’re still evolving Philologica, and I’m especially interested in feedback from researchers, PhD students, editors and people working in academic publishing.
